25 Years of European Carton Excellence Awards – And Not a Crease in Sight

The European Carton Excellence Awards (ECEA) were launched 25 years ago. Since then cartonboard designs that have been particularly beautiful, innovative and sustainable were annually recognized with these illustrious awards.
An entertaining live E-vent - despite the pandemic
The anniversary edition of the Pro Carton and ECMA European Carton Excellence Awards took place online due to the pandemic and, as a result, reached a large and diverse audience. The E-vent, which was broadcast live, was attended by executives and decision-makers as well as brand owners, students, teachers, media and of course all of the friends and staff from Pro Carton and ECMA.
MM Board & Paper wins a multitude of awards
Whether it’s apricot or plum season, the stone fruit basket made from Browncolor can handle them all. Whereas in the past fruit and vegetables were often offered in hard plastic trays in the supermarkets, today you can find more and more clever cartonboard packaging-solutions. Especially with natural foods, customers expect plastic-free solutions that still protect the product without harming the environment and rightly so. The expert jury of the ECEA was of the same opinion and honoured the project with the Food & Drink Packaging, Recycled Fibre Award.
In addition, MM Board & Paper won the Food & Drink Packaging, Virgin Fibre and two Gold Awards.

Our Browncolor recycled cartonboard is produced at MM Board & Paper’s Kolicevo mill in Slovenia and then converted into functional stone fruit baskets in Lower Austria, at MM Packaging’s Neupack site. Pro Carton Young Designer Award: Cartonboard of the future imagined by the minds of tomorrow
Have you already heard of “Frame It”, “Socksy Socks” and “Herbix”? Perhaps you haven’t, but maybe you will soon! These innovations along with much more were presented by creative young minds at this year’s Pro Carton Young Designer Award. Close to 650 design and art students from all across Europe submitted their sustainable and innovative cartonboard concepts to the Young Designer Award 2021. We are betting that some of these cartonboard innovations will make our everyday lives easier and more sustainable in the future!
