Bursting strength

31.10.2011 - Cartonboard Know-How

High bursting strength allows a packaging to retain its shape, even with high pressure is applied vertically (e.g. in piles).

Unit

kPa

Test Standard

ISO 2759

General information

Bursting strength is the greatest possible equally distributed pressure that the cartonboard can resist without breaking under test conditions, with pressure applied vertically to the test sample.

Additional details – practical relevance

The burst pressure is used to determine the strength of fiber materials. It is an important criterion for the resistance of packaging material during transportation stresses. This method is mainly used for testing corrugated board and liner grades.
